Notable Playoff Races
A revived Larry Fitzgerald, coupled with Carson Palmer’s improved play has the Cardinals in the thick of the playoff race. Four consecutive wins has the Cards fighting the 49ers for the final wild-card spot in the NFC. A Week 17 matchup between the two NFC West rivals could ultimately decide which 7-4 team gets the final Wild Card spot in the NFC.
The NFC North became a much closer race this week as the Detroit Lions dropped a heart-breaking game to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the Chicago Bears were blown-out by the Sty. Louis Rams to keep both squads even at 6-5. The Lions hold the tiebreaker heading down the stretch thanks to head-to-head wins in Weeks 4 and 10, but nipping at both of their heels are the 5-5-1 Packers after their tie with the Vikings this past weekend.
Both Pittsburgh and Baltimore win Sunday and are in position to win a Wild Card, or even win the AFC North. With the two teams playing Thanksgiving, the winner will be just 1.5 games behind the Bengals, who sit atop the AFC North with a 2-game lead but are facing a tough road-challenge against the Chargers. The Steelers host Cincinnati in Week 15 on Sunday Night Football in a game that could end up deciding the division.
Engulfed in controversy after the Jonathan Martin/Richie Ingcognito fiasco, the Dolphins are still in the Wild Card hunt, but their playoff-hopes took a big-hit this weekend, as the Panthers rallied to win late at Miami, and now the Dolphins and Jets still are tied in the race for now, and they’ll face each other in an elimination game of sorts this week in New York.
