It isn’t only good for dealing with the cold weather, but it opened up holes in the passing game. A couple of examples are Andrew Hawkins’ signature huge 50 yard reception and A.J. Green being wide open for a 21 yard TD reception. It seemed that no one was guarding Green, as the defense was actually more worried about the run game than defending arguably the best receiver in football.
Andy Dalton also benefited from the run game. The first half was not kind for the Red Rifle. He amassed a whole 44 yards and an INT on quite possible the worst throw I have ever seen from him.
Then you have the 2nd half. I have no idea who said what to him, but he came out of the locker room and put on a show. He made few mistakes and racked up over 140 yards through the air and threw a TD pass. I think this will carry over. It was a huge confidence booster.
Hopefully, we can see the October Andy show up in December and especially in January. If he can do that, and combine that with the run game we saw from The Law Firm and the Human Ferrari, this team can make a deep playoff run, and dare I say it? A Super Bowl run?
All you have to do is get hot at the right time, and it seems to me that the Bengals may be getting hot.
