As we hit the final four games of the NFL regular season, many fantasy football leagues are commencing their playoffs as they determine a league champion. This is the time to make the moves that will help you survive and advance to the next round, and here are the players you need to be adding via the waiver wire:
Nov 28, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; Oakland Raiders receiver Andre Holmes (18) reaches for the goal line in the second quarter against Dallas Cowboys cornerback Brandon Carr (39) during a NFL football game on Thanksgiving at AT
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Andre Holmes
The Raiders were expecting Holmes to become a significant contributor entering the 2013 NFL season, but a four-game suspension for testing positive for performance enhancing drugs looked like it might be the nail in the coffin as far as his NFL career went. After being cut by two different teams and barely making the Raiders team, the team still liked his potential enough to keep him despite the suspension, and he rewarded them last week vs the Cowboys.
On Thanksgiving, he notched seven catches for 136 yards and came within inches of scoring his first NFL touchdown, but was ruled down at the 1-yard line. But that was his first and only big-game of the year:
11/28 @ Cowboys
11/24 vs Titans
11/17 @ Texans
As you can see, all of his production this year has come in the past three games. Does that mean the Raiders are making it a point to feature him more in the offense? Or is this just the result of him playing while Denarius Moore sits?
Either way, you can’t look past his performance, or the rave reviews he’s getting from his coaches and teammates:
"“Andre has been doing this since camp. I think the four-game suspension kind of threw him off, but you see he goes out there and makes plays,” Raiders receiver Rod Streater said. “He might not be the fastest, but you put the ball in his area, and he’s going to come down with it.“"
If you’re in need of some WR depth on your bench or looking for a sleeper play in deep leagues where the waiver wire is thin, Holmes may be one of the best adds you can make for the playoffs.
