There will be many head-coaching jobs open in the NFL on Monday when teams begin firing their coaches on a day now known as Black Monday. Anywhere from 5-8 openings are expected, as several head coaches are already all but fired as the final week of the regular season comes.
One opening that appeared likely to come over the past month now may not come after all, as the New York Jets are expected to retain head coach Rex Ryan:

There are now multiple signs pointing to Rex Ryan returning as Jets HC next season, per sources; still some issues to work through, however.

Fox Sports Reporter Jay Glazer tweeted this last week:
"“Rex Ryan told his players in team meeting last night that word on street is that he’s getting fired and asked players to fight w him these last 2 weeks.”"
If the Jets had fired Ryan, he would have been a nice replacement for Mike Zimmer if the Cincinnati Bengals lose him this offseason to a head-coaching opportunity elsewhere.
With the Houston Texans looking likely to hire Penn State’s Bill O’Brien, that’s two jobs that may now be closed.
