Candidates to replace him: Penn State Nittany Lions Head Coach Bill O’Brien

The Texans appear the likeliest hire a head coach at any moment, and O’Brien appears to be the favorite. He’s set on coming to the NFL in 2014, and after he agreed to interview with the Hosuton Texans earlier last week, ESPN’s Chris Mortenson is now reporting a deal between the two sides is near.

O’Brien was a New England assistant from 2007 until 2012. He eventually became the OC for a Pats team that lost to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI.

As a condition to returning to Penn State for 2012, O’Brien and the school agreed to an amended contract that lowered his buyout to join an NFL team from $19.33 million to $6.48 million, so that could possibly deter a team fro signing him to a contract.
