CoachingSearch.com reported earlier this week that Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will interview for the Minnesota Vikings head coaching job.
Now, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting the same thing, only the Vikings will be interested in offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden as well:
Zimmer had these comments on Monday regarding interviewing with teams while the Bengals were still in the playoffs and if it was a distraction:
"“I don’t know because I haven’t been through that yet. I know that I’ll worry about that if we win. Hopefully we will. … I’ve been watching San Diego all day today. You’ll get a text from somebody … I didn’t even know all the things that happened today in the NFL happened. Guys walk into my office and say hey, so and so got fired, whatever. That’s the only way I know. I’m not checking the waiver wire or whatever.”"
Sunday’s game suddenly feels like an AFC Championship game. Win, and the Bengals can keep teams like the Vikings at bay for another week and potentially lead them to hire another coach who’s available immediately.
As of now, the Vikings are the only team to show significant interest in either of the Bengals’ coordinators.
