The week’s leading up to the start of NFL free agency will see many teams’ salary cap situation drastically change as they cut players and restructure the contracts of others.
Over the Cap does a great job of keeping their cap projections up-to-date, and here are the biggest shifts from last weeks’ numbers:
- The Arizona Cardinals picking up $8 million in cap following the restructure of Larry Fitzgerald’s contract
- The Atlanta Falcons picking up $5.5 million in cap room with the release of Asante Samuel and Stephen Nicholas
- The Kansas City Chiefs picking up around $2.5 million in cap space after the release of Dunta Robinson
- The Minnesota Vikings picking up nearly $2 million in cap room with the release of Erin Henderson
The Cincinnati Bengals are still at that $23 million mark, but could attempt to restructure the contracts of players like Leon Hall, Domata Peko ($3.9 mil) or Robert Geathers ($2.8 mil).
They could look to do a similar restructuring with Hall that the Cardinals did with Fitzgerald, but that could make his cap hit enormous in 2015. If it helps the team re-sign Anthony Collins though, it will be worth it.
