The Cincinnati Bengals keep making fee agent moves to secure their 2015 roster.  As of yesterday, they checked quarterback off their list after signing former reserve Josh Johnson (per Adam Caplan of ESPN).

After acting as Andy Dalton‘s backup in 2013, Johnson spent 2014 with the San Francisco 49ers . Johnson will compete with second year reserve A.J. McCarron for the backup job. He will likely end up filling the third string backup position behind McCarron and will give the Bengals options in the event that Andy Dalton goes down.

Josh Johnson has not had a completion since 2012 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This doesn’t mean the Bengals will not draft a quarterback to add depth, but it is less likely they will utilize a pick in such a way until late in the draft. He has started only one year with the Buccaneers (2009). During that span, he went 63 for 125 and threw for 685 yards, four touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Welcome back to the Cincinnati Bengals, Josh Johnson.
