When thinking of who’s on the proverbial “hot seat,” Dre Kirkpatrick should come to mind as quick as anyone. A dominant player coming out of Alabama who was selected in the first round, some thought he was the type who could almost walk into a starting job.
Yet to date, Kirkpatrick has been nothing more than a really good gunner on special teams. Whether it be not knowing the system, having to back pedal or just little injuries, Kirkpatrick has just been nonexistent on defense. During the later part of 2014, he began playing like a lockdown corner and may have earned himself a starting spot this year, so we will see if he earns his fifth-year option or if he should finally be labeled a “bust”.
