Marvin Lewis was expected to coach his way into a new contract or out of Cincinnati, but the Bengals have agreed to terms which gives him an extra year. The Bengals announced today on their twitter account:

Many people thought that this could be the year that Lewis would be on the hot seat if he didn’t get past the first round of the playoffs again, but it looks like they will give him another year.

I can’t say that I am surprised by the move. The Bengals will have a number of free agents hitting the market after the 2015 season and many of them love to play for Coach Lewis. Bringing back key players like Marvin Jones and George Iloka could be the key to keeping the core part of this group together. Lewis provides stability for the team and is something that most players can look forward to in this organization.

Lewis will still need to prove himself because they could just as easily cut ties with him after the season ends if they fail to make the playoffs or have another poor showing. Right now, Marvin Lewis will be the coach this season and as it looks for at least for right now, the near future.
