For all you fantasy football nuts this is the time of year when you really start to do your research and prepare for your upcoming seasons. As training camps approach the hype machine for many players will begin to reach full steam. Just like the real NFL Draft, your fantasy draft is not made or broke in the first round. However, you need to get a consistent difference maker that you can plug in an forget about for 16 weeks.
Whether you’re picking first overall or late in the first round it’s important to know which players to spend a first round pick on. Make sure that you understand the points system for your league and if it’s a PPR (points per reception) league. Here’s a look at fantasy football first round locks. Players are in no particular order, but all should be first round picks.
Andrew Luck QB – Indianapolis Colts
Luck is the only quarterback I am going to recommend in the first round of a 10 team league, unless you are in a two quarterback league. Luck accounted for 43 touchdowns last year while throwing for 4761 yards and running for another 273. The addition of running back Frank Gore shouldn’t effect his numbers, the offense clearly will start and finish with Luck. Select Luck and forget about your quarterback position for the season.
Demaryius Thomas WR – Denver Broncos
With a fresh new contract Thomas should be a happy man. Over the last three years he has went over 1400 yards and scored 10 or more touchdowns every year, he also hasn’t missed a game. Thomas is an elite, healthy, and proven producer who led the league in targets last year with 184.
