It is no secret that the wide receiver battle is on. With the loss of James Wright to injured reserve for the season, the Bengals have turned to a battle for two spots instead of just one. The Bengals carried six wide receivers last season because of injuries to A.J. Green and don’t forget that doesn’t include Marvin Jones, who was on injured reserve the entire season.
This year, with no set backs will be dressing five on the active roster and a reserve on the practice squad. The list of A.J. Green, Marvin Jones, and Mohamed Sanu are set in almost stone. That leaves Brandon Tate, Denarius Moore, Cobi Hamilton, Mario Alford, Greg Little, and Desmond Lawrence to battle for the final spots.
Mario Alford and Brandon Tate are both also battling for special teams spots. Alford shows a lot of similar skills to Stefan Logan, former Steelers wide receiver and return man. He is small quick and agile, which could help him to break tackles and get more yards than Tate. If Tate loses that position, he will have to earn his spot on the offense, which might happen with James Wright going down.
My Prediction: A.J. Green, Marvin Jones, Mohamed Sanu, Denarius Moore, Brandon Tate, Mario Alford (Special Teams), and Cobi Hamilton (Practice Squad)
