Giovani Bernard may have not had a touchdown, he made have had fewer touches than Jeremy Hill, but he ran with a purpose. Gio had eight carries for 63 yards and six receptions for 25 yards. He didn’t look like a second running back, and in fact, had a better game than Oakland’s top running back, Latavius Murray.

On almost any other team, Bernard would be a starter, so count your blessings Bengals fans, but it seems like in week one that Gio is running with a purpose. If Bernard and Hill can both open up the field and make teams respect the short game, it will open up a lot of options down field for Dalton and the receiving core. It also means if there is any injury, the Bengals can implore the next man up with little doubt that Bernard can carry the run game on his shoulders.
