Before we head to the draft, there is one player already on the team that Cleveland would consider as the quarterback next season. If Jackson doesn’t elect to go into free agency or a trade, Cleveland could always switch wide receiver Terrelle Pryor back into a quarterback. Jackson is already familiar with Pryor as a quarterback during their time in Oakland.
When Pryor was under Jackson in Cleveland, he had his best year as a quarterback. The former Ohio State Buckeye cruised to a 7-4 record, however, under pressure from the front office the Raiders traded for Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer and inserted him as the starter.
The Raiders failed to make the playoffs and also made Pryor look like a bad quarterback. Now years later, Jackson is again the head coach of Pryor, Jackson needs a quarterback and it could be Pryor. Before McCarron became the sole backup, I personally thought there was a spot in Cincinnati for him as quarterback, let alone as a wide receiver.
The true question whether this could happen is first needing to ask, can Pryor be a franchise quarterback? During his small shot in Oakland, I believe so, but I also believe he will have a longer career as a wide receiver. Pryor could be the Mohamed Sanu of Cleveland. however, the door isn’t shut on him going back to being a quarterback.
