Bengals Offseason List: Part Two Free Agents

3. Safety Reggie Nelson
Nelson picked his contract year to have his best year in the NFL, as he shared the league lead for interceptions with nine. The interceptions weren’t because Nelson was lucky, it was because he was in the right place. The coaches and Nelson’s teammates agree that he is like the glue in the back end and keeps everyone straight. Entering the season where he will be 33, Nelson doesn’t have a lot of years left, but he would would be very hard to replace.
Recommendation: The Bengals need to do what they can to get Nelson back. The money is there and the narrative will be that they want him back, but at what price. Do the right thing Bengals, and yes you might have to open up the wallet a little bit.
Projected Signing Team: With fellow safety George Iloka also a free agent, the Bengals will have to look to sign one of the two and I think it’s Nelson. He will give them a chance to groom second year player Derron Smith or an upcoming draft pick to take over in a couple years.
