With all the talk surrounding rookies Tyler Boyd and Cody Core, everyone seems to be forgetting about some players already on the roster. Mario Alford, Jake Kumerow and James Wright all have something to say about who is going to make the most impact at the No. 2 spot.

Usually, Bengals rookies get redshirted, but with the No. 2 and No. 3 receiver being such a priority, these rookies will have a chance to start. Tyler Boyd is the most likely candidate to start in the slot and Brandon Lafell on the outside. However, it may not be as easy to start for Boyd and Lafell as it may seem.

Cody Core is going to get his fair shot. He has been opening up eyes already in his short time in Cincinnati. “He blocks like he’s supposed to,” Wide Receivers Coach Urban said. “He’s a blocking jet ski. I mean, he’s out there pushing and he finishes blocks so much that we’re like, ‘Oh.'”

“He has great athletic skills and an opportunity to take off and go,” Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis said. “We drafted a guy a few years ago very similar to that in Marvin Jones, who got an opportunity here and was able to take true advantage of it. He saw his athletic skills continue to blossom, and we’re hopeful that Cody’s skills continue to do the same thing.”

Drawing a comparison to the likes of Marvin Jones is a big deal in Cincinnati. Jones was a fan favorite, therefore, Core is going to make this battle even more exciting, but lets not forget about the rest of the Bengals players.
