The Sky isn’t Falling…Yet

Both Marvin Lewis and Paul Guenther are on thin ice and will be in hot water if the defense doesn’t improve this week.

All is not bad in the Bengals world.  An MVP caliber QB paired with a world-class WR and talented RB’s highlight an offense that has big-play potential on every down.  Defensively there are playmakers all over the field with postseason experience inside a free-flowing scheme.  The Bengals best run defender is just now getting into football shape (Burfict) and Carlos Dunlap is a nightmare against any O-line.  Adam Jones is one of the best run defense cornerbacks in the NFL and Josh Shaw continues to gain valuable on-field experience.  Finally, Tyler Eifert is the only player on the injury report this week.  All of this together means that the season isn’t over and it isn’t time for management to go on a firing spree.

Unfortunately, Paul Guenther could become a sacrificial lamb to appease angry fans if the defense doesn’t improve this week.

The sky make not be falling now BUT if there aren’t improvements made on both sides of the ball changes need to be made.  Paul Guenther looked to have a top 7 defense this year but in certain spectrum’s doesn’t even have a top 15 defense.

The roster is what the roster is and all coaches will have to be creative to get the most out of what they have.

Next: Is Marvin Lewis The Answer?

Hopefully, drastic coaching staff changes aren’t needed but if this Bengals defense doesn’t start improving soon changes must come.  Sometime soon, the voice of Marvin Lewis will need to be replaced with a new voice and fresh perspective.  Unfortunately, Paul Guenther could become a sacrificial lamb to appease angry fans if the defense doesn’t improve this week.
