Why The Bengals Face An Uphill Battle In 2017

Gotta Mention Marvelous Marv
This is another chance for Marvin Lewis to get a Coach of the Year nod. Since 2009, owner Mike Brown has been slowly handing more responsibility to his head coach. That being said, the 2017 campaign is going to be the year that makes or breaks Lewis. After a disappointing 6-9-1 finish last year, Brown has yet to give an extension to Lewis.

Say what you will, the Bengals have gotten back to a level of respectability under Marv. Yes. It’s time to drop the respect thing and get some playoff wins and AFC Championships.
Lewis is one of the longest-tenured coaches in the NFL. But, he’s also the only one to have a fat goose egg under postseason W’s. Until that changes, every amount of garnered respectability will be scrutinized.
Put Up Or…
There’s only so much fans can take. By the same token, Brown has to be getting tired of hearing the calls for his head. Lewis has a knack for finding talent and putting it on the field. But, it’s time for those players to produce. If the Bengals are going to turn things around, it has to be this year. Otherwise, the window of opportunity will get smaller.
Linebacker Kevin Minter said he can understand why players love to be around Lewis. This will be the year players have to show how much they care. Chances are, 2017 is going to be a Missouri year. He needs to ‘show’ Brown that he can do the same thing he managed when he arrived. The team is being retooled and the playoffs are a must.
