"“I’m at a loss of words today. Our football team, I thought, had a good week of preparation and we did not play close to the kind of football to win the football game today we needed to. I don’t know, that we hurt ourselves early on with penalties and errors and that we shouldn’t have, from the kicking game right away, our failure to capitalize on things offensively, and to get stops on defense. I know we had a lot of new guys and different guys, but that’s no excuse. We didn’t play well enough today.”"
Lewis wasn’t the only one with no words to describe the carnage that took place at Paul Brown Stadium. It went from a manageable one-possession game into a rout. But, the bottom line is absolute. There was a lack of energy that none of the players could pinpoint.
Let’s stop playing games. It’s Lewis and his inability to thoroughly motivate his team. Having a good week of practice means nothing if there’s no fear of what could happen or desire to get it done. Watching the Bengals on Sunday was a chore. Each time they had the ball, there was uncertainty. They looked like they were sleepwalking and just going through the motions.
In the words of Carlos Dunlap.
"“This was pretty bad. I didn’t expect this football game.”"
