Alabama defensive tackle Da’Ron Payne

Cincinnati still has a hole next to defensive tackle star Geno Atkins and bringing in Alabama Da’Ron Payne proves they are wanting to fill that hole this offseason. While the team has already brought in Chris Baker through free agency, the one-year prove it deal does not strike many as a solution. Payne is the most versatile defensive tackle in this draft class in my opinion.

While Washington defensive tackle Vita Vea is the top prospect, Payne has more ability to be a pass rusher alongside being a run stuffer. This could be a draft pick that would significantly help the defense against the run as they were one of the worst in the league just last season. Payne would also force teams to take attention away from Atkins or allow him to get around single blockers and into the backfield.

The former Alabama defensive tackle was excellent dealing with double teams while at Alabama which could translate well in the NFL. Especially if put on a defensive line that consists of Atkins and defensive end Carlos Dunlap. We all know Cincinnati loves their Alabama prospects so keep an eye on Payne come pick 21.
