Cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick

2018 CAP Hit: $9,568,750

As the fourth-highest CAP hit for the Bengals in 2018, Dre Kirkpatrick has not been a good value since signing his big contract. Breaking out during his contract season benefited Kirkpatrick landing him a deal that he has yet to live up to. He was injured going into camp last season and had nagging injuries that killed his production in 2017.

Kirkpatrick looked to have developed into a great cornerback when he worked alongside coach Vance Joseph but last season was a disaster. Only hauling in one interception and drawing flags for being too handsy with wide receivers, he will need to have a bounce-back season in 2018 to prove a good value.

I think that Kirkpatrick will have a better season this year if he can stay healthy. He will get plenty of opportunities as quarterbacks will turn away from the likes of William Jackson III who had a breakout season last year. Darqueze Dennard is another player that had a great 2017 season from the slot and hopes to keep producing as it is a contract year for him.

If Kirkpatrick can get back to his 2015-16 self, he would be worth the money. Ranking the 15th highest paid cornerback in the NFL is not terrible if he can grab a few interceptions in 2018. Considering the changes on the defensive side of the ball and looking to become more aggressive up front, I see Kirkpatrick benefiting and having more success than his injury-plagued season a year ago. Cincinnati will also have more safety help over the top with second-round pick Jessie Bates stepping in.
