The former Bengals player made headlines for the first time this offseason, as a fight with an airport employee was picked up on video.

After the Bengals released Adam Jones this offseason, very few people have paid attention to him. Very few, if any, teams have demonstrated interest in Jones since his release. However, his name popped up recently after an altercation broke out in the Atlanta airport.

In a video from TMZ, recorded by a bystander, Jones is clearly fist-fighting with an Atlanta airport employee. The employee, Frank Ragin, seems to have initiated the fight by making some sort of gesture at Jones. The situation escalated quickly as the two started to exchange heated words. The video isn’t good enough to decipher what Ragin or Jones are saying, but it was clearly aggressive.

That led to a physical altercation, which Ragin seemingly started by throwing the first punch. Jones responded by taking several large swings at Ragin, which sent Ragin to the floor. He tries to continue attacking Ragin once he’s down, but he isn’t able to inflict more damage onto Ragin after knocking him down. Jones was traveling with a female friend, who intervened briefly. Her words are indecipherable as well, but she seems to ask Jones and Ragin to stop. Ragin also hit her, injuring her hand.

The incident calmed down after the fist fight. Police investigated the incident, and determined that Ragin was at fault for the fight. Police charged Ragin with two accounts of battery, and the Atlanta airport fired Ragin for initiating the fight. Ragin is currently in the hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Jones and his friend declined medical treatment. The police did not charge Jones with any crimes. Because of Jones’ long history of run-ins with the law, this situation seems to reflect negatively on him. However, police have found (and the video confirms) Ragin was completely at fault. Jones was merely defending himself.

Last season, Jones recorded 23 tackles and 1 interception. His play severely dipped, as he graded out as “poor” in PFF’s rankings. The Bengals released him, saving $4 million. Cornerback is one of the deepest positions on this roster, so it unlikely Jones will return to Cincinnati. He remains unsigned.
