Dud: the rest of the quarterbacks
After AJ McCarron bolted in free agency, the backup quarterback position was always going to be an issue. Jeff Driskel was still on the roster, but the Bengals did not really address this position in free agency or the draft. They signed veteran Matt Barkley, who has been shaky at times in camp. He’s had good throws here and there, but overall, he hasn’t flashed consistent arm power or accuracy. The Bengals also drafted Logan Woodside, who has been a disaster thus far. He got a DUI before the start of camp, and then hasn’t really been present at camp at all.
It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Bengals made some sort of move to get a new guy in the quarterbacks room. As of now, Barkley would probably be the choice. He has had some good moments, and has started to play better with a little confidence. Driskel would be my choice, but he has had some horrific moments in camp, including a stretch where he completed zero passes in the red zone in over two minutes. A young backup like Teddy Bridgewater or Brett Hundley might be the way to go.
