Special Teams Were Truly Special

Usually going unnoticed aside from Kevin Huber’s booming punts, the special teams provided a spark for the offense on multiple occasions and kept them in the game. Jonathan Brown, a late addition to the roster this summer, kicked multiple booming field goals and extra points, the farthest topping out at 55 yards. On each attempt he had plenty of distance, and that shouldn’t be too unexpected since Brown was a soccer standout at the University of Louisville.

While Brown impressed, the return game was pretty exciting too. Cornerback turned return man Darius Phillips excelled tonight with two kickoff returns for 72 yards and one punt return for 24 yards. Phillips knifed through the Cowboys’ special team defense, and help set up great field position for the go ahead drive. I would be interested to see if Phillips returns to that role in week 3 action.
