Low: Run game lacks efficiency
The Bengals had a really solid offensive performance, but couldn’t get anything going on the ground. Joe Mixon had a poor game for the second straight week, rushing 6 times for 7 yards. Giovani Bernard didn’t do any better, rushing 4 times for 3 yards. While the offensive line is an issue (see previous), the starters are just not performing up to snuff. Mixon needs to become a better north-south runner in particular to up his yards per carry.
The Bengals have their biggest issue at third string running back, though. Mixon and Bernard have the known upside, and should play better in the regular season. Mark Walton, on the other hand, has been absolutely brutal to this point. For the second straight week, he rushed for negative yards. Walton also didn’t catch a single pass for the third straight week. So far, he has yet to show any redeeming value, and has been significantly outperformed by Brian Hill and Tra Carson.
