Ranking the Bengals Red Zone Weapons
1. A.J. Green
This one is a no-brainer. You would be hard-pressed to create a better red zone target in a lab. A.J. Green is a top receiver in all facets of the game, but he was made for the red zone. He has the height (6’4″), leaping ability (34.5 inch vertical), focus, catch radius, and hands to get the better of pretty much any defender that lines up across from him.
One of the things he does so well is track the ball and adjust to it. In the clip above via uSTADIUM on Twitter, he is running full speed, abruptly stops, comes back to the ball, and catches it around the defender. It is plays like this that have earned him the nickname “inspector gadget”.
Often times, even if he isn’t the one scoring in the red zone, he frees up everybody else because he demands so much attention. If he ever gets a one-on-one opportunity, Dalton should and usually does check the play and throw up a fade to Green. He wins the 50-50 balls a majority of the time.
The Bengals will miss him as he spends the beginning of the season recovering from his ankle injury. Fortunately, the team still has a lot of weapons to turn to with him sidelined.
