When you’re at the bottom, there is nowhere to go but up. If you’re part of the Cincinnati Bengals running game, any improvement is a big improvement. Against the Bills in Week 3, expect the Bengals running backs to be better.

Hey, they have to be. After two weeks of next to nothing on the ground, a sheer determination will yield a better result on Sunday, especially after being awful at home against the 49ers.

In Week 1 at Seattle, the Bengals ground game accounted for 34 yards. In their home opener last Sunday, that same group led by Joe Mixon racked up a paltry 25 yards. Clearly, something has to give. Odds are good that the Cincinnati rushing attack sees a boost this week.

Mixon is the key. He also has been candid acknowledging that his play has been awful.

That’s a nice sentiment, but fans will be much happier to see results on the field versus a tweet after a bad game. This isn’t all on Mixon. That said he’s the same player who went on the record to say the Bengals could be as dynamic as the offense the Los Angeles Rams deploy each week. So far, not so much.

I think Mixon makes some headway in Week 3. He won’t go for 100 yards, but he’ll be better than he has been.
