I won’t say that rookie quarterback Ryan Finley is the future for the Cincinnati Bengals. Then again, can anyone say he is not? Odds are long that Finley is the heir apparent to Andy Dalton, but at 0-7 and not anything other than a last-place finish in the AFC North, why not find out what Finley can do?

The rookie from North Carolina State wasn’t impressive early on. And while he did show some flashes in the preseason, it is the preseason. What Finley can do under the harsh lights of a regular-season NFL game needs to be determined.

It’s more than likely Finley is not the long term guy for Taylor. If the Bengals end up with the first, second, or third overall draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the team selecting a quarterback is a pretty good bet. That said. Finley should get a long look over multiple games and situations. Dalton has had nearly half of a 16 game schedule to reverse the slide he’s helped the Bengals get in to, why not find out what the other guy on the depth chart can do.

Taylor should want to know what kind of quarterback he has in Finley. If it’s a complete disaster, it will fit quite nicely into the one he currently has on his hands in Cincinnati. If not, maybe Finley is someone who has a future.
