Initially, the working theory was that rookie quarterback Ryan Finley would be a change-up from what wasn’t working, and then something on offense would begin to work. In two weeks, however, the offense looks to be even more stagnant after a 17-10 loss to the Oakland Raiders. A game that looked to be the Bengals’ best chance for a win since Week 1 at Seattle.

For the record, two weeks isn’t enough time to determine much of anything, especially when the team has gone from 0-8 to 0-10. The only thing fair to say is that Cincinnati is as bad through the last two games as they were through the previous eight.

With that, look for Jake Dolegala to finish the season with starts in three games to close out the season. Dolegala may see the field sooner, but the Bengals should and will give Finley five games to see what he can do. Meaning the quarterback from Central Connecticut State will get to face the New England Patriots at home, the Miami Dolphins on the road, and AFC rival Cleveland Browns in the home finale.

This isn’t to say that switching to Dolegala is an indictment against Finley, as much as it is Taylor and the Bengals doing some due diligence further down the quarterback depth chart.
