The Bengals will enter this draft with the goal of revitalizing their linebacker room. Jordyn Brooks from Texas Tech gives them the youth and athleticism to do that.

He is a little shorter than most NFL teams would like at 6’1,” but his 245 pound frame more than makes up for that. Scouts love his range and willingness to make a tackle. He is good in coverage too, which the Bengals have been searching for in their linebackers.

He seems like a true leader as well. The Draft Network had this to say about him,

"“Super active and twitchy middle linebacker that is the heartbeat of not only the team, but the defense as a whole. Thrives on physicality and patience while reading his keys, he’s excellent at triggering downhill to the ball once he’s able to diagnose the happenings in the backfield. Took over a much larger role this year after the departure of Dakota Allen and hasn’t disappointed.”"

When breaking this analysis down, a few things catch the eye. First the descriptions of “twitchy” and “active” should be music to the ears of Bengals fans. Players with those kinds of attributes are going to be key to containing division rival Lamar Jackson moving forward.

Another thing that sticks out in his profile is being known as the heartbeat of the team. Earlier this season, Zac Taylor called out the linebackers for lacking leadership. It wouldn’t be surprising if Brooks catches the Bengals attention to fill that void.

Pair him with Germaine Pratt, who has similar attributes, and the Bengals are well on their way to solidifying one of the weakest positions on their roster.
