The Bengals should be focused on retooling their offensive line this offseason. Some of that process has already started. The team made their first addition this week, picking up Isaiah Prince off waivers. Another young prospect they could attempt to bring in is Cole Van Lanen out of Wisconsin. He was rated Pro Football Focus’s top tackle for the 2018 season, with an elite grade of 90.4.

Wisconsin consistently produces great offensive line talent for the NFL and Van Lanen could be next. After taking a redshirt season, he has started every game since, giving him plenty of experience.

His draft stock has fallen recently, primarily due to poor outings against Chase Young. Then again, there hasn’t been a left tackle in all of college football who has been able to contain Young. In their second meeting this season, the Big Ten Championship game, Van Lanen seemed to improve with the help of some double teams.

The Wisconsin Badger has some quality traits that could be used to groom him into the Bengals future starter at right tackle. If he’s still on the board at the right spot, don’t be surprised if the Bengals pick him up.
