Make no bones about it-Chase Young is probably the best player in the 2020 NFL Draft class. That said, he’s probably not the player fans are looking for when Roger Goodell steps to the podium to announce the first pick.
Until further notice, it is Joe Burrow or bust. QB is at the top of the list for the Cincinnati Bengals, and rightfully so. Their veteran quarterback looks to be on his way out, and the transition to a fresh approach is all but a certainty.
However, Young is the kind of talent teams will fall in love with. He could very well be the player that is impossible to ignore at the Combine and when he makes the interview rounds with teams at the top of the draft order. He was a Heisman finalist, finishing his tenure at Ohio State with 45 total tackles, 16.5 sacks, 21 tackles for a loss, and seven forced fumbles. Honestly, how do the Bengals ignore such gaudy numbers?
It could be hard.
Young is the kind of talent you can count on for a decade. He’s transcendent at the position and is better than Jadeveon Clowney who was drafted in 2014 by the Houston Texans. Additionally, when you are trying to climb to the top of the AFC West, you have to beat the Baltimore Ravens and their quarterback Lamar Jackson, a near-lock for NFL MVP.
Burrows might be “that guy” today. However, a lot can and will change before April.
