If the Bengals want to end their linebacker troubles, secure a veteran leader, and upgrade the defensive side of the ball significantly, Danny Trevathan is the way to go.

With so many marquee players in their front seven, the Chicago Bears may view Trevathan as expendable, which should be welcome news to Bengals fans. He’ll cost more than every other player mentioned here but with the correct salary cap management, he won’t demand a contract the Bengals can’t afford.

He’s great both in coverage and stopping the run, as well as rushing the passer. While he is seemingly always around the ball, it’s the leadership he brings that makes him even more valuable.

In a piece by NBC Sports, this quote from Trevathan’s linebacker coach speaks volumes,

"“He’s just a special personality,” DeLeone said. “I think when he’s on the field, the other 10 guys, they all look to him. He’s such an unbelievable leader, a charismatic person.”"

The former Kentucky Wildcat seems to be exactly the player the Cincinnati Bengals have been lacking on their defense for years. Adding him to the established stars and young, emerging players on the roster could spark the defense in a big way.
