The Bengals finally address their need for linebacker here and by doing so, they get one who fits the modern NFL perfectly. Akeem Davis-Gaither reigns from Appalachian State where he put together an impressive resume, especially in pass coverage. In his senior year alone, he totaled over 100 tackles (14.5 for a loss), 8 passes defended, 1 interception, and 5 sacks. With a stat line like that, it’s clear he is capable of making an impact in every way possible.

Davis-Gaither, much like the previously mentioned Jones, put together a great week at the Senior Bowl. With the Cincinnati front office’s affinity for drafting players from the event, it seems likely Davis-Gaither would be on their radar.

The Sun-Belt defensive player of the year fits the mold of a hybrid linebacker. At 215 pounds with great strength for that weight, he is capable of stopping the run while also light enough to show off his range and coverage abilities.

In an ideal world, the Bengals would have already added a linebacker in free agency before this point. Adding Davis-Gaither to a linebacker room that contains Germaine Pratt and a hypothetical free-agent addition would be a great start to turning around one of the team’s weakest positions.
