It’s fair to say that the Nick Foles who managed the Eagles to a Super Bowl win and a Super Bowl MVP hasn’t and won’t materialize in Jacksonville. Gardner Minshew, who is an interesting prospect, also looks to be a few seasons away from being a starter if at all.
The Jags finished a disappointing 6-10 in 2019. Foles, who would sustain an injury in Week 1, never looked to regain any of the form he flashed in two successful seasons of relief in Philadelphia. Jacksonville also has some pieces, like running back Leonard Fournette who is an absolute beast at running back. They have the 9th and 20th pick in the first round of the upcoming draft and will be selecting on the defensive side of the football. Meaning Dalton isn’t looking over his shoulder.
One other thing worth considering is the AFC South. It’s a tight division that had the Jags in last at 6-10, with the division winner Texans finishing at 10-6. For Dalton, an obvious upgrade over Foles and Minshew, this is a team he helps win next season.
One last note about Jacksonville is they are scheduled to play two games in London in 2020. They are a franchise long rumored to perhaps move to London as the NFL looks to establish deeper roots in the UK. The Bengals have a huge fan base in London, and a player like Dalton could be a huge draw for the struggling franchise.
