Conclusion

What the Bengals do with Mixon will be one of the most important decisions they make in the offseason. If they choose not to re-sign him, it could lead to a potential training camp hold out like Melvin Gordon with the Los Angeles Chargers last offseason.

While there are both pros and cons to extending the stud running back, the right decision largely depends on the Bengals approach to free agency. If they go with their usual conservative approach to free agency, they should pay Mixon what he wants. If they decide to be more active players in the free agency market, they should spend their money elsewhere and let him walk.

Losing Mixon would be a hard pill to swallow for many Bengals fans. In his three years with the team, he has become a fan favorite in Cincinnati. But with a new era of Bengals football coming in the likely selection of Joe Burrow, the team is going to have to make some tough decisions while they rebuild. As free agency approaches next week, fans can expect more answers as to what the front office will do with Mixon.
