Bengals: Thaddeus Moss makes too much sense not to happen

Tight end seems to be a need for the Bengals ahead of the NFL Draft. There are a few options to help the position, but Thaddeus Moss is a perfect fit.

With Tyler Eifert now a Jaguar, Drew Sample and C.J. Uzomah are the most prominent tight ends on the Bengals roster. It is too early to write Sample off, but he didn’t make an impact as a rookie. Uzomah has always filled his role nicely, but he has only had one 30+ catch season in his five-year career.

It is reasonable to speculate that Cincinnati may look to draft a tight end who could turn into a receiving threat. The incoming tight end class is not outstanding, but former LSU Tiger Thaddeus Moss would look real good in the stripes.

Any team could use a target who stands over six feet tall that just caught 47 balls for the reigning National Champions. Moss isn’t a speed demon and is a bit raw, having only played one full year of big-time college football. Even so, the size along with last year’s production is enticing.

But the biggest reason the Bengals should take a long hard look at Moss is his college quarterback.

The team is expected to take Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow with the top overall pick. Even under normal circumstances, having a pass-catcher that your rookie quarterback is already comfortable with is a good idea, if possible.

However, that could be even more valuable this year. With the NFL fully virtual until further notice, no one knows when Burrow will actually be in the same building as guys like A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd.

Quarterback/receiver chemistry takes time to build. Burrow and the guys who are already Bengals may not have that luxury. Thus, having a big and familiar target on the roster would be fantastic for everyone involved.

Cincinnati has never felt comfortable moving up and down the draft board. That would likely be required to select some of Burrow’s other college targets. However, Moss should be able to be snagged by staying put in the middle rounds.
