It was evident that Taylor was unhappy with the linebacker group he inherited when he called out the unit for their lack of leadership and cut Preston Brown mid-season. Then, the front office let Nick Vigil walk in free agency.

The Bengals have restocked the cupboards, however, signing veteran Josh Bynes off the open market and drafting 3 linebackers in late April. The group now looks to consist of Bynes, Germaine Pratt, Logan Wilson, Akeem Davis-Gaither, and Markus Bailey.

Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo had a total of 6 linebackers on the roster in 2019, but the majority of the time, only 5 were active. This likely leaves Jordan Evans on the outside looking in.

Under Lewis, Evans saw the field early and often. Taylor’s coaching staff clearly didn’t share the same evaluation of the former Sooners linebacker though, as his playing time significantly decreased with the regime switch.

Evans is still young, can contribute on special teams, and was asked to do a lot of different things early on in his career, giving him valuable playing experience. He’ll likely catch on elsewhere as a solid depth player, but with all the young guns now in Cincinnati, he’s probably played his last regular-season game with the Bengals.
