There are only two locks to make the Bengals’ roster at the tight end position. Those slots belong to C.J. Uzomah and Drew Sample. Beyond them, there are a couple of intriguing options such as Cethan Carter and Mason Schreck, but neither of them has shown enough to close the door on an undrafted free agent such as Mitchell Wilcox.

The 6’5 big man put up some solid receiving numbers while in South Florida. In his best season, he hauled in 43 passes for 540 yards and 2 touchdowns. That stat line won’t blow anybody away but it’s enough to show that he’s capable of partaking in the passing attack.

In order to make the roster, he’ll have to prove he can bring it on special teams. There’s no reason to think he won’t provide high energy in that regard, as scouts love his effort and willingness in other aspects, such as blocking.

Wilcox has limitations in size and athleticism but he’s consistent, shows strong competitiveness,  and his college production speaks to his knack of getting open. It’ll be a battle, but he has what it takes to make it as the third or fourth tight end on the roster.
