Relatively unknown Bengals: Jacques Patrick

Much like the wide receiver room, the running back room in the Queen City seemed set in stone before training camp began. Leading the way is star running back Joe Mixon. Behind him, the always reliable Giovani Bernard provides stability. To round out the group was a duo of exciting and promising players, Trayveon Williams and Rodney Anderson.

Unfortunately for Anderson, he was just never able to overcome his injury concerns after flashing so much potential. Now, Cincinnati has a slot open at the position. Former undrafted and XFL running back Jacques Patrick is making a run for the vacated spot.

In Friday’s scrimmage, the 6’3, 226-pound back made some jaw-dropping plays. According to the Athletics’ Paul Dehner Jr., two of his most promising reps included a 41-yard rush and a 14-yard scamper to pay-dirt.

Of course, there’s still more work to do before Patrick secures his spot. The team still really likes Samaje Perine, who has spent time with the club previously. Obviously, the lack of preseason games doesn’t help Patrick’s case either.

As training camp progresses, keep an eye out for both Patrick and Perine to see if one of them can sneak onto the roster.
