Potential Bengals Head Coach Replacements: Matt Campbell

Few coaches have generated as much buzz as Matt Campbell. The man at the helm for the Iowa State Cyclones was contacted by six NFL teams during last year’s hiring process. He was reportedly even considered to lead Ohio State when Urban Meyer stepped down from his role with the Buckeyes a few years back.

So, the big question becomes, why has he yet to land one of these jobs? Is he waiting for the correct situation or is he missing something that franchises are looking for?

Either way, there’s no denying that he has a combination of attributes that is, at the very least, getting him interviews for big-time positions. It’s easy to see why too.

In his four full years as the head coach of the Toledo Rockets, he finished three of those season with nine wins. He then went on to turn around an abysmal Iowa State program, leading them to three straight bowl appearances.

At just 39-years old, he’s proven his youth and innovativeness is enough to quickly turn around a losing organization. That sounds just like what the Bengals need right about now. He’ll get a shot in the NFL at some point, could it be in Cincinnati?
