Behind Joe Mixon, Bengals finally ease fan frustration with win over Jaguars
Behind a big day from Joe Mixon, the Cincinnati Bengals finally eased fan frustration in a 33-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
After a disappointing 0-2-1 start to the 2020 season for the Cincinnati Bengals, fan frustration began to boil over. The play of the offensive line, red-zone woes, and head-scratching play-calling had caused many to question the future of the coaching staff.
On Sunday afternoon, however, Zac Taylor and co. gave the orange and black faithful a reprieve from those concerns by securing a 33-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Behind a three-touchdown day from Joe Mixon, the offense put up 33 points and looked like they found a blueprint for future success. Joe Burrow had another outstanding day as well, throwing for over 300 yards and cashing in for a touchdown.
The Bengals may have finally found an answer at right guard
Much like the left tackle position a year ago, the right guard spot has been a revolving door for the Bengals in 2020. So far, Fred Johnson and Billy Price have attempted to fill in for injured starter Xavier Su’a Filo, but largely disappointed.
Cincinnati opted to sign Alex Redmond from the practice squad in an attempt to provide better protection for Burrow, and overall, he impressed. He played a big role in keeping the pass rush at bay, a positive development, even if it’s just against a sub-par defensive line like the Jaguars’.
Redmond didn’t only get it done in pass protection, but put together a string of impressive run blocks as well. Often times, Mixon was able to spring big runs behind the 6’5, 320-pound guard.
Next up, Cincinnati has a much tougher assignment as they travel to take on the 2-1 Baltimore Ravens. Look for Redmond to get the nod in the starting lineup once more as the Bengals attempt to keep their new-found momentum rolling.
