More veteran help at quarterback

At 36 years old, Matt Moore would seem to be a short term solution more likely to mentor Allen and Finley and potentially be the starter in 2021 if Burrow is not ready to begin the season or misses it entirely.

Moore would not be the long-term solution to backup Burrow. Moore backed up Ryan Tannehill for the Dolphins in 2016 Miami finished 10-6 that season to earn a wildcard spot.

Moore was 29-36 for 289 yards with one TD and one interception as Miami lost 30-12 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. After seven seasons in Miami, Moore was not re-signed. The veteran joined the Kansas Chiefs in 2019 and earned a Superbowl ring playing in two games.

Josh Johnson

Josh Johnson has had a unique journey in his football career. If the Bengals chose to add him to their roster, Johnson would be on his third stint in Cincinnati. Johnson has been on the rosters fo 14 teams in the NFL and has played in the United Football League, Alliance of American Football and the XFL.

With the Los Angeles Wildcats in the XFL earlier this year, Johnson completed 60 percent of his passes for 1,076 yards, 11 TDs and two interceptions with a 106. passer. Johnson led the XFL in passer rating, was second in yards and TD passes. At 34 years old, Johnson would be similar to Moore be a short term solution.
