Bengals to build around: Tee Higgins

Earlier in this list, I praised Tyler Boyd as currently being the best receiver on the Bengals’ roster. However, I noted that rookie Tee Higgins was rapidly catching up to him. While he has not reached that point yet, his development shows that he will eventually surpass Boyd and become Joe Burrow’s top weapon in the future.

Despite being targeted 14 times less and having 20 fewer receptions, Higgins is only about 70 yards behind Boyd and actually has one more touchdown than the fifth-year veteran. The 2020 second-round pick has developed into a legitimate threat much quicker than he was expected to and that should be a great sign of things to come.

While Boyd is more of a true slot receiver, Higgins has shown signs of being a legit No. 1 receiver in the NFL. Coming out of college, many compared the Clemson prospect to Bengals’ legend A.J. Green and he has lived up to that comparison so far. If Burrow’s connection with Higgins continues to develop the way it did during their rookie years, they could become one of the premier QB-WR duos in the NFL.

Higgins and Boyd were showing signs of being one of the best wide receiver duos in the NFL before Burrow’s injury. This trend should continue when Burrow returns from injury. While they shouldn’t be in competition with each other, Higgins’ rapid development as a rookie shows that he will eventually become the better of the two.
