Ranking the Bengals’ top options with the No. 5 pick in the draft
By Aaron Burd
Bengals’ draft option #1: Penei Sewell, OT, Oregon
The four previous names on this list would all have big impacts for the Bengals, but no prospect would have a greater impact than Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell. With their huge holes on the offensive line, the Bengals should consider themselves lucky to be in the running for the best offensive tackle prospect in years.
In 2019, Sewell did not allow a single sack and didn’t even allow a pressure in nine games. His sophomore year was so good that despite sitting out the 2020 season, he is a sure-fire top ten draft pick. He did this at a young age as well, as he was only 19 during his dominant sophomore year.
With great size and athleticism, Sewell dominates opposing defensive lineman. Despite already having a talented left tackle in Jonah Williams, Sewell would likely come in and take that spot right away, shifting Williams to the right side of the line. With two young talented tackles, the Bengals would finally be starting to put together a solid offensive line.
While there are plenty of talented prospects in the draft, Sewell is one of the best offensive linemen to come out of college in a long time and should be the Bengals’ top target with the fifth pick.
