Cincinnati Bengals’ Draft Day Steals – Cameron Sample

A few days ago, I looked at each AFC North team’s best value pick and for the Bengals, I listed Cameron Sample of Tulane. Cincy grabbed the Green Wave defensive lineman in the fourth round and in doing so, ensured their pass rush would be at least a little better this year than it was a season ago.

Here was what I said in my write-up of Sample in that article,

"After finishing last in the NFL in sacks a year ago, Cincinnati made sure to add pass rushers in this draft and Sample falls into that category. The Green Wave defensive lineman had a nice senior season in New Orleans, tallying 52 tackles (7.5 for loss) and five sacks. He had 10.5 sacks during his four-year career at Tulane."

What makes Sample such an intriguing pick is that he’s versatile. He lined up on the edge for Tulane last year but has experience from inside as well. The Bengals need any kind of advantage they can get on defense and Sample gives them a versatile defender.

Sample probably slid to the fourth round because he’s from a non-Power 5 school but this is a pick that could be looked at as one of the best from this draft.
