Bengals Must-Watch Quarterback Matchups

No. 4: Joe Burrow vs Patrick Mahomes

I mentioned Mahomes a bit earlier because of Wilson’s abilities being compared to his but now we’ll dive deeper into Mahomes. The Bengals have faced Mahomes once since he took over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback and well, to put it nicely — It wasn’t a fun night for Bengals fans.

This will be the first time that Burrow and Mahomes have met up though and there will be a lot on the line in this game for both quarterbacks and for both teams. The Bengals host the Chiefs in Week 17 (second to last game of the season) and the Chiefs will likely be vying for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs while Cincinnati might just be looking to close out their season on a high note.

These two won’t have a lot of connections aside from being former first-round picks, as Mahomes was taken in 2017 and Burrow went in 2020. Bengals fans would obviously love to see Burrow have a similar career to that of Mahomes, who won an MVP in the 2018 season and won the Super Bowl the following year, just his third year in the league.

The difference is that the Chiefs were in a good spot before Mahomes came to town and that helped him. Burrow didn’t come into a good situation and if the Bengals don’t win more than five or six games this year, Zac Taylor could be on his way out and Cincinnati might be forced to find a new head coach not long into Burrow’s career.
