Free Agents Bengals Should Sign – No. 2: Geno Atkins

The Bengals made the difficult decision to part ways with Geno Atkins this offseason and in a sad turn of events, he’s still available in free agency. The former fourth-round pick out of Georgia in 2010 spent his entire career to this point with the Bengals and is a fan favorite. Moving on from him was a difficult choice.

Considering Atkins is still unsigned, however, it makes sense to bring him back to Cincinnati. He’s familiar with the team and the organization and what the defense would ask him to do. He’s not a starter at this point in his career, only playing in eight games a year ago and not recording a single sack, but he’s depth.

Atkins is just three years removed from notching 10.5 sacks and he had 4.5 in the 2019 season. 2020 was rough on everyone and that includes Atkins, who struggled to find his way onto the field and that’s why Cincinnati moved on from him.

Yes, he’s a free agent for a reason but Bengals fans seem to be fine with bringing him back. He’s not the same Atkins he once was but depth is important for this team and Atkins would add that for a team looking to take a leap this year.
