Toughest Quarterbacks on Bengals 2021 Schedule – No. 1: Patrick Mahomes

The most difficult quarterback on Cincinnati’s schedule this year is easily Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bengals host the Chiefs in Week 17 in what could be a sneaky good game even if Cincinnati is out of playoff contention by that point. They have a chance to play spoiler against the Chiefs late in the season.

Mahomes won the NFL MVP title in 2018 after throwing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns and then led Kansas City to a Super Bowl title in the 2019 season while also adding Super Bowl MVP to his resumé. This past season saw him throw for 4,740 yards, 38 touchdowns, and six interceptions, which was worthy of him earning his second MVP title (though Rodgers definitely deserved it).

The Bengals faced Mahomes once before, back in 2018 when he was in his first year as a starter. He carved the Bengals up to the tune of 371 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 45 yards as well. Cincinnati’s defense did pick him off once, but the lopsided 45-10 score indicates that wasn’t really that big of a deal.

Mahomes is the toughest quarterback on the Bengals’ schedule this year because with him at quarterback, the Chiefs are never out of games, no matter how much they’re trailing by. The Bengals defense needs to bring it in Week 17 when Mahomes and the Chiefs come to town.

The Bengals have the past three MVP recipients on their 2021 schedule and also have the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year to deal with as well. It won’t be easy against these four quarterbacks but hopefully, the Bengals are up to the task of going blow-for-blow with them.
