After putting up impressive numbers as a rookie, Tee Higgins is looking to go even bigger in year two. The Cincinnati Bengals took Higgins in the second round of last year’s draft with the idea that he’d be Joe Burrow’s top weapon moving forward.
While the Bengals added another wide receiver with Ja’Marr Chase, who played with Burrow at LSU, this won’t impact Higgins’ production too much. Even his quarterback is predicting an awesome season for his receiver.
Burrow spoke to the media earlier this week and said that:
"“He looks like a different guy out there,” Burrow said. “We were throwing the deep balls and the first couple I under threw him a little bit and I was like, ‘Gee Tee, where did that come from?’ I didn’t really expect that from him. He’s getting out of there this year. We have some horses on offense that I’m really excited about. Tee’s going to have a big year.”"
The quote above was provided by Geoff Hobson of the Bengals’ official website.
Joe Burrow expects Tee Higgins to have a monster year for the Bengals.
Of course Burrow is going to say something like this about his receiver but it’s exciting nonetheless. He and Higgins gelled well as rookies and now they have a full year under their belt and that’ll only make them stronger moving forward.
Cincinnati has a stacked group at wide receiver this year and while there will be some weeks where that’ll hurt Higgins, there’s absolutely going to be weeks where he demolishes defenses. It’s going to be darn near impossible for defenses to cover him, Chase, and Tyler Boyd on a weekly basis so one of those guys — if not two of them — are going to have monstrous games.
Higgins is likely going to be the WR2 entering the season but he’ll absolutely get his in this offense. We saw what kind of receiver he could be in year one and now it’s exciting to think about what he’ll do as a follow-up performance.
